HILTON HEAD ASSEMBLY 2280
WELFARE COMMITTEE GUIDELINES
1. There should be at least two Sir Knights from each Council that could help
with identifying the ill Sir Knights and who could make a visit.
2. The visit should range from about 1/2 hour to 1 hour depending on the condition of the Sir Knight.
3. The visit could be made by a local Council's Sir Knight or another Sir Knight who would
represent the Assembly.
4. We should always call first as sometimes the Sir Knight may not be up for a visit and the family
wants him to rest and not have visitors.
5. We should consider using both the 4th Degree meetings and Newsletter to help identify all of
our Assembly's Sir Knight that potentially should be visited. Then once a list is complied we
could publish it in the Newsletter and have all Sir Knights pray for them as they would be made
aware of the Sir Knights that are ill.
6. We could send a Mass card (from the local Council's Church) on behalf of the Assembly for each
Sir Knight that is ill and maybe the wife or family members could attend the Mass at their local
Church. Other options might be to purchase an inexpensive book, magazine or a religious article like
a Scapular, Prayer Card, light a candle, etc. and bring it to the Sir Knight while visiting him.
This would have to be approved by the Assembly and budgeted.
7. Possibly dedicate a Mass for all ill Sir Knights once a year.
8. If a Sir Knight is gravely ill we should contact the Color Guard Commander to make him aware of
the potential need of an Honor Guard.
9. We could possibly prepare a small booklet to leave with the Sir Knights family member that provides
information on what the 4th Degree will do: such as praying, an Honor Guard and who to call in the
event there is to be a funeral, name, address and emergency phone number of the local parish priest
or Catholic hospital Chaplain, and any benefits due the Sir Knight.
10. We should publish in the Newsletter the member names and contact information of the Sir Knights on
the Welfare Committee.
11. In the event the Sir Knight cannot be visited, but could receive a short phone call, then a phone
call could be made.
12. Maybe also just send a get Well Card to a Sir Knight that could not be visited.
13. If a Sir Knight is an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and there would not be any conflict
with the local Parish, an offer could be made to the Sir Knight that is ill that another Sir Knight
that was a Eucharistic Minister would bring the Blessed Sacrament to them when a visit is scheduled.
