History of Thomas D. Reilley Sr. Council Knights
of Columbus # 10668
 Shortly after St. Francis By The Sea Catholic Church
was dedicated, several men of the parish explored the possibility of forming a
new Knights of Columbus council for the parish. With a few transfers from the
Raymond G. Bennett council at Holy Family and a call for new members, the
Thomas D. Reilley Sr. Council was formed in 1991 with a core of 35 charter
members
Fred Losinski, as the District Deputy was instrumental in forming
the new council. Robert Bidwell was the first Grand Knight. The council was
named after a prominent member of the parish that had died in the recent past.
Tom Reilley owned the Crazy Crab restaurant and donated its use for Sunday Mass
and breakfast prior to the building of St. Francis By the Sea Catholic
Church.
The council got off to a good start and performed several tasks in
support of the rapidly growing parish: Picnic tables were built to be placed
around the outside of the church. Two Knights donated their labor in installing
the Stations of the Cross inside the church. Knights moved the Pastor from his
temporary residence into the Rectory when it was completed. In the first
several years the Council co-sponsored "Keep Christ In Christmas" billboard on
busy HWY. 170
The Council has grown from that small start to an organization that
is more than 200 members and continues to provide various support functions for
the Pastor and the parish.
The Knights donated the flag pole for the school and
erected and maintain the Stations of The Cross behind the Columbarium around
the lagoon. The Knights also generously donate their time and talent at the St.
Francis Thrift Shop.
